More Americans Than Ever Before Don’t Believe The Bible Should Be Taken Literally

Published by:

More people than ever before, even the majority of Christians, believe that the Bible is more stories and fables than the literal word of God, says a new Gallup poll. This is the first time that there has been that much of a split between what could be viewed as true Bible literalists as opposed to those who believe in interpreting the stories in the Bible and applying them to a contemporary world.

The Christian Post reports:

“Over the past three decades, Americans’ view of the Bible as the literal Word of God has been declining, while their view that the Bible is a collection of fables, myths and history recorded by man has been increasing,” Gallup observed about the poll, which was conducted of 1,011 American adults between May 3–7, with the margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.

Among all sampled Americans, fewer than one in four, of 24 percent in total, said the Bible is “the actual Word of God, and is to be taken literally, word for word.”

A slightly higher 26 percent said that the Bible is “a book of fables, legends, history and moral …read more

Little Known Black History Fact: Jo Etha Collier

Published by:

The senseless murder of 18-year-old Jo Etha Collier on this day in 1971 rocked the state of Mississippi and the nation. Civil rights icon and local figurehead Fannie Lou Hamer spoke out against the injustice, and the case remains unsolved to this day.

Collier was walking home the night of May 25 after graduating from the recently integrated Drew High School in the small town of the same name. Around 9:45 p.m., a pickup truck drove by and began shooting, hitting Collier in the neck. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Three white men inside the truck were caught just hours later via a roadblock. A pair of brothers and their nephew were reportedly seen drinking and threatening Black residents earlier in the day. Hamer said in reports that Collier was killed simply for being Black, and linked the slaying to the ongoing unrest surrounding the voter registration campaign in the region.

While the trio of men were arrested, and held, they were never charged for the crime. Rev. Ralph Abernathy eulogized the popular Collier, who won an award at the school for spirit and attitude and was a top member of the school’s track team.

Cosby Trial Jury Includes Two African-Americans

Published by:

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The jury that will hear the sex assault case against Bill Cosby will include two blacks among its 12 members.

Prosecutors and the defense team on Wednesday also selected three of six alternates, and two of them are black.

Cosby’s lawyers had complained this week that prosecutors were trying to keep blacks off the jury with their seven strikes. The judge, though, found prosecutors had other valid reasons to strike two black women earlier this week. The jury makeup of 17 percent is higher than the 13 percent black population in Allegheny County.

Meanwhile, Judge Steven T. O’Neill removed a white male juror chosen Monday for undisclosed reasons. Lawyers then chose a white woman to replace him.

Cosby, the 79-year-old black actor-comedian once known as America’s Dad for his beloved portrayal of Dr. Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” is charged with drugging and molesting a Temple University women’s basketball team manager at his home near Philadelphia in 2004. He has called the encounter consensual.

Dozens of other women have made similar accusations against Cosby, 79, but the judge is allowing only one of them to testify. The jury from Pittsburgh will be sequestered nearly 300 miles from home.

Storing, processing and retrieving data are the three main issues that should be solved by a data management system.

Online businesses have particular needs for real-time data management. Data may include customer leads and other web-based analytics.

The basic problems of managing data may seem simple but the specifics and volume of data can complicate the situation. Hence, there is a need to customize the systems based on the needs of a business. Various types of businesses have …read more
